Shohei Moriya ("we", "us") provides the iOS application "Mealuto" (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.

1. Basic Principle

The App is designed so that image recognition and food-log storage happen entirely on your device. The App does not send your photos, recognition results, or food logs to our servers. When a photo contains location data, its coordinates may be sent to Apple's Maps service solely to look up an address automatically.

2. Information Collected and Purpose of Use

The App accesses and uses the following data. Food logs are stored on your device. Photo image data and image-recognition results are not transmitted externally; only photo location coordinates may be sent to Apple's Maps service when automatic address lookup is performed.

2.1 Access to Photo Library

  • Data accessed: Image data, capture timestamps, and embedded location (EXIF) data of photos in your camera roll.
  • How it is accessed: Via the iOS Photos framework, only after you grant permission through the iOS permission dialog.
  • Purpose:
    • To automatically detect meal photos and extract meal candidates.
    • To use the photo's capture timestamp as the time of the meal entry.
    • To use the photo's embedded location, when present, as the location of the meal entry and retrieve an address from Apple's Maps service.

2.2 Image Recognition Results

  • Data generated: Food label candidates and their confidence scores, produced by Apple's Vision Framework.
  • How it is generated: Entirely on-device by running image recognition locally.
  • Purpose: To present candidate meal entries for you to confirm or edit.

2.3 User-Entered Food Logs

  • Data entered: Food name, calorie value, meal category, date and time, optional location, optional place name, and favorite status.
  • How it is collected: From your input and edits within the App.
  • Purpose: To save and display your meal log and calorie summary.

3. Where the Data Is Stored

All data the App accesses or generates is stored on your device in local storage (SwiftData / iOS local storage). We have no means of accessing your data.

If you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS settings, the App's data may be included in your iCloud backup. In that case, the data handling is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

4. Third-Party Sharing and External Transmission

The App does not transmit your photos, image-recognition results, or food logs to our servers. The App does not embed any advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or crash-reporting SDKs.

When automatically looking up an address from a photo's location, the App sends the coordinates to Apple's Maps service. Apple processes the address lookup, and we do not collect the location information. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for details on Apple's data handling.

The App uses Apple Inc.'s StoreKit to provide in-app purchase features. Purchase processing and purchase-status management are handled by Apple's systems; payment information is processed by Apple, not by us. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for details on Apple's data handling.

5. Permissions Requested

The App requests only the minimum device permissions required for its features.

  • Photo Library access (NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription): Required to automatically scan your meal photos. You can change this permission at any time in iOS Settings.

The App does not request Location Services (GPS) permission. Location information is only read from EXIF metadata of photos you have allowed the App to access.

6. Deleting Your Data

You can delete individual meal entries at any time within the App. To delete all data, uninstall the App from iOS settings — uninstalling will remove all data the App had stored on your device.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at any specific age group. Image recognition and food-log storage happen on-device, and we do not collect personal information.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. The revised policy will take effect when posted on this website. Material changes will be communicated through App updates.
